Sheila release new single with M.I.C. Muzik

Ilonggo pop artist, Sheila Barrios recently recorded and released a new collaboration single with Zpinx Angel and Priceless of Mix Ilonggo Crew (M.I.C. Muzik) titled “Kung Akon Ka Lang.” The single is one of the new tracks produced, arranged and recorded by Ilonggo rapper Zpinx Angel who is slowly gaining a name for himself and their group. The single is a mixture of Ilonggo and English rap verses combined with Sheila’s soulful voice, the song was released on January 1, 2012. The song will soon have an official video that will be shot in different locations in Iloilo. The first scene was already shot at Tatak Ilonggo channel 41 Studio in Iloilo City via green screen. The artists are hoping to finish the music video that will exclusively premiere at RSLPhoenix MusicTV, an all-Ilonggo artist music show set to launch on January 20, 2012 at Iloilo Capitol Grounds and will be shown at Tatak Ilonggo channel 41 (Skycable Iloilo).

Sheila and Ilonggo Artists featured in 8finity Magazine

Sheila Barrios together with other Ilonggo artists were recently featured in the first issue of 8finity Magazine, a new publication produced by 8finity Events and Production where Sheila is also one of the writers and staff as Editorial Assistant. The magazine featured their September event at Plazuela de Iloilo for "Sarap Magbago Ilonggo" and Ilonggo Pop Phenomenon where Ilonggo music was further redefined with its recent popularity. Sheila is one of the rising Ilonggo artists under RSLPhoenix Music who popularized the trend for local music since her first single "Ginpalangga" came out in 2010. Sheila will be writing articles and featurestories as one of the writers of the magazine in the coming issues. Writing is another talent of Sheila aside from singing and music. In fact, she used to be the Associate Editor of their high school publication "Barrio Express" when she graduated in 2009.

Ilonggo pop songstress, Sheila Barrios with Reyn Callao and Cherry Callao as Ilonggo 3nity, a pop group from Iloilo City, Philippines is coming back with their first English single this May 2011. Produced and co-written by RSLPhoenix with Ilonggo 3nity plus edited and mixed by M.I.C. Muzik, the song is a heartwarming ballad that highlight the voices of three of the most sought-after local Ilonggo music artists today. The song is scheduled to be played at Radio For You 93.5 Community Station in Rockhampton City in Queensland, Australia in its Filipino Program and hopefully will have a regular airplay.

Sheila receives “Best Ilonggo Popstar Award”

Sheila Barrios finally proved herself as a certified popstar of the Ilonggos when she was given a plaque of recognition declaring her as “Best Ilonggo Popstar of the Year” during the Thank You Gig of Ilonggo pop-rock singer, Earl Nite last April 16, 2011 at Padi’s Point, Plazuela de Iloilo. The award was presented by Iloilo City councilor David Jamora to Sheila as recognition of her effort, talent and goodwill to popularize Ilonggo music through her hit singles “Ginpalangga” and “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang.” For the record, Sheila will be celebrating her one year in the local music scene next month since she recorded her first single. A few months after she released her song “Ginpalangga” last May 2010, her song started to gain attention from radio listeners and she performed live at GMA Arangkada morning show. In June last year, Sheila released an indie-film style music video of her song “Ginpalangga” in youtube.com. The music video was somehow considered as the first-ever by a local Ilonggo female artist to be posted online though it is indie by style. Sometime in October 2010, Sheila together with her cousins, Ilonggo indie singers Reyn and Cherry Callao of Ilonggo 3nity pop group (Sheila is also a member) released their first group single “Badtrip.” Though it was only played in selected Bacolod FM stations, the song was given attention by a Filipino part-time DJ of Radio For You 98.5 in Rockhampton City, Australia and instantly played in his Sunday Filipino program. Sheila’s solo single followed to be played on air along with Reyn and Cherry’s solo songs. By the end of October, Sheila released her second single “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” in Bacolod City FM stations. The song immediately entered the top 10 hit charts in two weeks time and became the most requested song in less than a month. Sheila embarked on an FM-station-tour in Bacolod and was even interviewed for Isyu Subong, a local news and public affairs program of GMA TV Bacolod.

Sheila was declared as a nominee for the first Ilonggo Music Awards for Best Female Artist of ABS-CBN Iloilo and MOR 91.1 in December. She performed her songs during the Performance Night at Jaq’s Bar in Smallville and received a certificate of recognition during the Awards Night in Robinsons Place Iloilo. Sheila together with other Ilonggo music artists headlined several mini-concert shows from December 2010 to January 2011 especially during the Dinagyang Festival week. In February 2011, Campus Radio 93.5 Iloilo launched her song “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” on air and instantly gained massive admirers. in Bacolod City, the ballad-rap song “Salamat Iloy” recorded by Zaril featuring Sheila Barrios was released by the end of February and immediately became the most requested song for its inspiring tribute for a mother’s unconditional love for her children.

This year, Sheila is taking one step at a time, remains humble, down-to-earth and grateful to those who continue to support, listen and request her songs in local FM stations here and in Bacolod City. In a few months to come, Sheila will be releasing a full album CD or independent mixtape entitled “Ginpalangga.” The album CD will showcase her versatility as a born singer that resembles her title as a “songstress,” someone who is into popuar songs with edge, style and can sing any kind of music genre under the sun (and I think rapping or tongue-twisting is no exception, hehe).

Sheila performs in Leon, Iloilo

Ilonggo songstress, Sheila Barrios was invited to perform her Ilonggo hit songs “Ginpalangga” and “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” last February 19, 2011 at Brgy. Anunang Plaza in Leon, Iloilo. The all-Ilonggo music artists show was organized by Vhouying King of SYK Unit, the artist behind the hit Ilonggo songs “Boho,” “Kadaku Sang Moon,” and “Bisan Anu Matabu.”

Sheila impressed and entertained the audience with her sentimental Ilonggo songs that are considered the most requested songs in local FM stations in Iloilo and Bacolod City. This year, she’s going to release a full-length all-Ilonggo songs independent album.

Sa Handum Na Guid Lang: Sheila Barrios’ Valentine Voice

Longings for true love is back today, February 11, 2011, two days before Valentine’s Day as Ilonggo pop songstress, Sheila Barrios’ much-awaited second Ilonggo single “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” (Only in my Dream) officially premiered exclusively at Campus Radio Iloilo 93.5. The song with original beat owned by Diane Warren and has a heart-piercing lyrics was personally written by Sheila based on her experiences about falling in love for a best friend. This song was her emotional chronicle about young love and first heartbreak that driven this 18-year-old Ilongga to express her feelings through music. Unaware of her natural gift for singing, Sheila passionately performed the vocals and find joy finishing this song last year. In fact, the song was earlier released in Bacolod City last November 2010 in selected FM stations that quickly climbed in the local FM music charts and won the hearts of Bacolod radio-listeners.

Sheila started as a shy but talented girl with a big voice under the independent management team of Iloilo-based RSLPhoenix Music. Sheila first released her song “Ginpalangga,” (Loved) last May 2010. The song captured the interest of radio listeners and was heavily promoted by Campus Radio Iloilo 93.5. It also reached the shore of Bacolod City and became a radio-favorite Ilonggo song along with the current interest for Ilonggo music. RSLPhoenix produced an indie-mini-film music video of the song and was posted in youtube.com in July 2010 which was considered by its creative team as so far the first independent music video produced for an Iloilo-based female singer. Born in a family of singers, Sheila was also picked to become a member of Ilonggo 3nity composed of budding Ilonggo hitmakers, RnB sensation Reyn Callao and Cherry Callao. Their group song “Badtrip” and Sheila’s “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” both premiered at Radio For You 93.5 FM in Rockhampton City, Queensland, Australia last November 2010. Their songs are played every Sunday for a Filipino blocktime program and were the first Ilonggo songs that were heard there just to entertain Filipino radio listeners.

Doing what she love to do for music, Sheila is now working and recording original tracks for her first independent solo album to be entitled “Ginpalangga” that will have its release this 2011. She is enjoying her collaboration with several budding independent Ilonggo artists such as Zpinx Angel of Mix Ilonggo Crew, Stan of All Out Kingz, Bacolod-based rapper Zaril of Filomena Crew, Vhouying King and Eazzy of SYK Unit and a lot more artists to complete her solo album. Patience is a virtue for Sheila. She is taking one step at a time.

But with the premiere of her new song “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang” over Campus Radio Iloilo today, Sheila is even more inspired to touch and reawaken the longings for true love this Valentine’s Day. After all, her friends always believe that she can melt other people’s heart with her simple yet soulful voice.
