take 3

Sheila’s "3nity" side

Sheila’s direction as the second local artist launched by rslphoenix music is a memorable journey for her. Gifted with the natural ability to sing and enthusiasm to explore herself with music, Sheila has already achieved a lot of attention from the Ilonggos. She released her first single “Ginpalangga” in only two local FM stations but quickly gained favourable interest from radio listeners. Even those surfing the internet came across with her song and live performances via her youtube channel and this webpage, her own little domain where she shed her true capabilities as a young artists.
She also got the chance to have an exclusive pictorial with Jose de Luna, a well-known international Filipino photographer who was admittedly one of Sheila’s avid fans. One time, Joe even made a joke that he would be willing to watch and take pictures during Sheila’s first major local concert (if it will happen). But who knows little dreams sometimes come true, right? The future is full of great possibilities, you know (it will surely happen, trust me). Her pictorial was done inside Savannah, the biggest theme community of Camella Iloilo. For her, being able to have this opportunity to show her true self with her pictorial is a life-changing moment. She didn’t expect such chance to come a year ago when she was a just simple high school girl whose dream is to stay happy.
Sheila even proved her singing prowess when she performed live at the launching of itravel Philippines TV last May 20, 2010 with four other local singers including her cousin, Reyn Callao, Nazty Dee and Bronze P. A few weeks after, she performed live at Camella Blue Jeans and Shades Party at Westown Hotel. Then, her first live TV performance happened at GMA Arangkada, a popular Ilonggo morning show. In the show, she impressed the hosts of Arangkada with her unique voice and enthusiasm to answer their questions.
June 28 marks another event in her barely 2-month local singing career with the unveiling of her first music video “Ginapalangga.” She enjoyed making it with the rest of rslphoenix music team and had the support of her friends such itravel model, Manuel Jorilla and her cousin, Cherry Callao who are both part of the video cast. The music video is an independent effort of the creative team to explore the emotions involved in her song.
After the full music video release of “Ginpalangga,” Sheila’s future is surely brighter than ever before with the reinvention of Ilonggo pop---------------the 3nity!
Yes, it’s coming and it means more music.

indie pop

Sheila goes indie music video

Sheila is preparing to release her first indie music video for “Ginpalangga.” We call it “indie” because it’s more like an independent effort from a group of Ilonggo artists in rslphoenix music who envision something nice for Sheila as a local singer. These days, nothing is new with indie films. As long as you have the right inspiration, creativity and some gadgets, anything is possible. And for a local singer like Sheila who happens to be an Ilongga with passion for singing, making this indie music video is an expression of creativity and style. Furthermore, it will deeply tell the story of how she wrote the song and what are the emotions involved in it.

Sheila was a bit surprised to finally realize that her indie music video involves a lot of elements, creative people and cast. One of them is Manuel Jorilla, a recent model for the new issue of itravel Philippines. He is tall, cool and a nice friend of Sheila since the launching of itravel TV started in SM City Iloilo. For Manuel, taking part in this creative project is also a form of self-expression and exposure. Next, we have her cousin Cherry Callao who happens to be enthusiastic to join the video shoot. This young girl is also good-looking and very close to Sheila. The creative direction of the music video was shared by rslphoenix and Angelbert Diocena, who happens to love Sheila’s voice. They will bring out the best in her and will tell a tragic love triangle in a very-indie film style. Whatever comes up with the video shoot is a work of art for all of them. As usual, Sheila shot most of the scenes in Savannah Trails Clubhouse, a part of a very popular residential community of Camella located in Pulo Maestra Vita in Oton, Iloilo.

As soon as editing for “Ginpalangga” music video is done, we will announce the premiere date in her youtube channel and webpage. For now, enjoy listening to the song by requesting it at local FM stations.

flashback

Looking Back

As a glimpse and look back to the successful itravel Philippines launching at SM City Iloilo last May 20, 2010 where Sheila Barrios was one of the Ilonggo music artists that performed live, Bronze P posted a short mini-documentary video clip. They all enjoyed the candid shots and behind the scene footage before the show. Sheila performed her solo single “Ginpalangga” and her collaboration single with Nazty Dee “Kahit Malayo.”

Thank you for this wonderful clip Bronze P. Sheila enjoyed her time with all of you especially to Reyn Callao and Nazty Dee.

The Voice

There is only one common thing that people say whenever they hear Sheila singing (either recorded or live)---she’s got the voice. Not just singing voice but somehow a distinct one. It may not like any ear-piercing, note-overlapping voice like other female singers that we’ve seen on TV. But whenever she sings, she’s a head-turner and that is something that most people noticed about her. Sheila is comfortable in singing any kind of song from pop, dance, RnB, rock and especially ballad. It shows her affinity for karaoke because she’s used in singing at home away from the large crowd. There are some people who told her that she have this “x-factor” appeal with the way she sings—sweet, melodic and alluring. Somehow it’s true that she sheds a new personality whenever she sings and she’s doing it in a very passionate way. Who would even thought Sheila is actually amateur with singing contests even in high school. She refused to join any singing contest but choose to accept the task as an emcee in school programs. Or focus more on her academic task as a responsible student who give importance to her studies. With her interest in public speaking, maybe that’s the reason why she knows how to carry herself in any conversation in front of other people (but not with singing).
But singing and music comes out naturally for her. Coming from a family of singers and music lovers in Iloilo (that includes her cousin Reyn Callao), Sheila considers singing as self-expression. Her recent favorite song that she rediscovered was “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera from Walt Disney film “Mulan.” The song somehow relates to her present artistic pursuit as a local singer launched by rslphoenix music. Like the song, she’s sometimes hesitant to embrace her true capabilities as a singer and a 16-year-old girl who undergo changes. She’s starting to follow a journey and fulfill everything she loves to do with music one step at a time. If there are some people who sometimes discouraged her saying she lacks physical “x-factor” appeal, there are even more optimistic people who supported her proving that music is nothing without a voice and that a real singing voice justifies the meaning of music. A voiceless music is a manufactured sound without a heart and without a center of emotion. Music with a heart can hit the right center spot of human emotions and that’s what music should be--a real voice behind it.
I believe Sheila as a young and budding Ilonggo singer will be singing more for us. She takes pride of Ilonggo music as her identity. In the coming weeks, she’s releasing her first music video for “Ginpalangga” in her official youtube channel, webpage and more. The music video is done artistically by rslphoenix music creative team and set aside the constraints of getting expensive. What matters most are the heart and soul, the time and effort, the music and the voice behind it to make it a real work of art.
This is the simple voice of Sheila Barrios, an Ilongga singing from the heart.

music box unveiled

Sheila unveiled in GMA Arangkada

Sheila finally unveiled her voice and music in GMA Arangkada, Iloilo’s top-rating morning show that slowly becoming the home of local Ilonggo talents. Aside from its TV magazine and news format, Arangkada hosted by four popular Ilonggo hosts Mark, Charlene, Kate and Jordan, the show also embraced a role in introducing talented Ilonggos who deserves a place under the sun. Its rating success comes from the show’s fresh, sharp and fun appeal to the masses. Arangkada is always held live every weekdays at 7AM.

Sheila is just 16 years old but her passion and natural gift for music is undeniable as pointed out by Arangkada host Kate. Sheila sang her first independent single “Ginpalangga” released just a month ago in only two local FM radio stations in Iloilo. Other FM stations will soon play her song in the coming weeks. She also co-wrote the song with rslphoenix music, her independent artist management team. Likewise, Mark, another Arangkada host asked who she admired most when it comes to international pop singers, Sheila without a second thought told him it’s Rihanna. He called her, the local Ilongga version for Rihanna (the beat of her song was also inspired by one of Rihanna’s hit single). Sheila also admitted that she’s emotional as a singer and started to sing when she was in her elementary year but was not given a chance to join any singing contest. But Sheila’s talent for singing is something she wanted to share with other people and amid her vocal flexibility to sing, she stays simple and humble. Kate also admitted that she heard a news that Sheila’s solo performance and collaboration single with Nazty Dee entitled “Kahit Malayo” were all given positive feedback from the crowd who watched the itravel Philippines launching in SM City Iloilo last May 20. But the young Ilongga singer just smile from the complement she received from the host.

Sheila also performed “Kahit Malayo” with Ilonggo rapper, Nazty Dee as featured artist in his first single. As usual, Sheila shines and proved her singing prowess with confidence. Arangkada host Mark also invited their televiewers that they can also request the two Ilonggo music artists to perform in their parties or events. Both of them can be reached through facebook.com by searching their name. Reyn Callao, another Ilonggo singer and Sheila’s cousin with Bronze P also came to support their fellow Ilonggo music artists.

In the coming days, Sheila will shoot her first music video for “Ginpalangga” and updates can be seen here first in her webpage and youtube channel.
