on the radio

“Ginpalangga” premieres at Campus radio

Shiela Barrio’s first single “Ginpalangga” recently premiered at Campus Radio, one of Iloilo’s most listened FM stations last week. A heart-warming ballad inspired by Rihanna’s song, the lyrics is catchy enough to capture the sentiments of radio listeners that blended well with Sheila’s powerful voice. Written in Ilonggo, it is collaboration between her and rslphoenix. The song presents the multi-layered singing artist with depth and emotions. It speaks about teenage heartaches, frustrations, moving on, and healing of the heart. Love for this rising local songstress is about emotional expression and sending a touching message about accepting reality.

Sheila is the second local singer introduced by rslphoenix music to popularized Ilonggo music. The song also premiered in youtube (search Sheila Barrios) in her very own channel and in her webpage www.sheilailonggopop.blogspot.com.

There’s no other way to express your interest and affection for Sheila’s song but to request it at Campus Radio. The DJs will surely love to play her catchy song all the time.

Sheila’s turn for fashion makeover with Ram Silva

Ram Silva, the new fashion sensation in Iloilo had an awesome makeover for Sheila, the next Ilonggo pop songstress. With his desire to make people feel confident and fashionable about themselves, Ram pursued his passion for fashion designing. He had numerous exposures in various fashion events in Iloilo and other places in just a year. Considered by local fashion critics as innovative designer, Ram took his talent to higher ground by leading Holiday Belles in SM City last December 2009 and became a breakthrough finalist in Robinsons Design Lab Run 3.
In preparation to promote her first single “Ginpalangga,” Sheila was given a chance to be styled and dressed up by Ram Silva. Sheila became a fashion chameleon for a day at Savannah Trails Clubhouse last April 28. Ram presented various facet and image of Sheila, defining an urban chic look and edgier style that were all captured in the camera of international travel photographer, Jose de Luna.
First, there’s the sweet and innocent-looking girl in light make-up that makes Sheila a blooming teenager. Next, she dressed up into a sexy and sultry disco girl with classy looks. She also turned serious and fierce with a purple top gown that shows her edgy personality. Lastly, the urban chic comes out in Sheila as she posed with casual clothes for summer and yes, yellow 2010 sunglasses that reminds pop fans about Lady Gaga. Nonoy Mosquera, an Ilonggo freelance make-up artist provided some of the best looks for Sheila with his expertise in makeover. Anyway, she’s not just an ordinary singer... there’s more than meets the eye for Sheila.
At the end of the day, Sheila was grateful for Ram’s fantastic fashion flair. His fashion style brings out the best for this rising local singer and boosted her confidence. She’s not only capable of belting out with high notes but she can be fashionable, too.
Anyway, request for Sheila’s “Ginpalangga” in local FM stations starting this week. It is out now and hopefully it will succeed to woo radio listeners.

heart beat and bits

"Ginpalangga"

Lyrics by Sheila Barrios

Arranged co-written by rslphoenix

(Verse 1)

Palangga ta guid ka

kag indi ko gusto nga

mangita kapa guid sang iban

gusto ko mabalan mo

nga ikaw kabuhi ko

kag indi taka pagkalimtan

ikaw napinsar ko

kag kalipayan ko

tani di kana magpalayo

handum ko tani nga

magaupdanay kita

asta guid sa katapusan

(Refrain)

Pero ano ining nabatian nga may ara ka sang iban
kulang pa bala ang paghigugma sa imo

Kag ako ginbaylo

(Chorus)

Ikaw lang guid ang ginpalangga ko

Ikaw lang guid ang ginahandum ko

Indi ako gusto magpalayo

Apang siya gihapon ang ginpili mo

Ano bala ang himuon ko

Nga di kana liwat madumduman

kag ikaw makalimtan

(Verse 2)

kasakit sa akon

nga ikaw paminsaron

apang wala guid ko sang mahimo

paano na ako

kag ang ginhambal mo

nga ako lang ang palanggaon

kag di pagbayaan

biskan ano man matabo

apang ikaw ang nagbuya

bangod balan ko

di ka seryoso

kag ako nagisahanon

(Repeat refrain and chorus)

(Bridge)

ikaw lang

ang makabulong sang kasakit nga akon nabatyagan

sa akon dughan

ikaw lang guid

ikaw lang ang bulong sa dughan

(Repeat chorus)

looking through the mirror

Sheila’s Reflection

At first glance, Sheila Barrios is an unassuming girl. But when she starts to smile and talk, she opens a doorway for you, a doorway that leads to a secret room where her untapped singing voice and passion for music glitter in full color. Somehow, she has this undeniable charisma with her voice. Forget about Ariel of Walt Disney’s Little Mermaid, Sheila is no fairy tale character but a real girl dreaming for simple and little things in life. But her voice is big (and angelic, too). The first few notes she utter defines what she is capable of. And yet, she doesn’t want to be called a “little diva” but someone who loves to sing. Expression is a fulfillment for Sheila.

A true-blue Ilongga, Sheila hails from Barrio Obrero in Iloilo City, Philippines. The youngest sibling of seven and the gifted of them all enjoyed music in whatever form it is. At 16, this bubbly teenager is both an academic achiever and active in extra-curricular activities. She can dance well and sing live with assurance that her audience will be entertained. Her inclination for music has always defined her passion to get inspired by American international songstress Rihanna and Beyonce. Pinay international pop sensation, Charice is also one of her musical idols. But the closest relevance she has for music is her cousin Reyn Callao, another rising Ilonggo RnB singer. Both of them compliment and encourage each other for music. To be specific, both of them promote Ilonggo music, a gesture of taking pride for Ilonggo’s cultural identity by singing in local language. They know that the sentiments of their songs can be easily understood and romanticized by radio listeners and music lovers.

rslphoenix music, a team of Ilonggo artists with passion for local music saw this girl’s untapped potential. Though she sometimes choose not to flaunt much of her musical capabilities, Sheila is undeniably good when she starts singing. She starts to shed a new personality and vibrant face with her voice even in her young age. When she continues soaring with her fascinating vocal flexibility, you get to see the real her—a girl with big voice in an unassuming face, a rare package that catapulted many unexpected divas and songstress in the field of music. But the first step of making her little dreams come true is to start accepting, embracing, and look at her reflection in the mirror wholeheartedly. This writer believes the heart is a compass of dreams and passion. It even conquers the impossible.

Sheila’s journey begins on May 1, 2010 with the release of her independent first single entitled “Ginpalangga” which she co-wrote with rslphoenix and inspired by the song of Rihanna. It will be aired first in several local Iloilo FM stations and can be seen exclusively in her own youtube channel with a teaser video of her first fashion photo shoot. Filipino international photographer, Jose de Luna and rising Ilonggo designer, Ram Silva merged their artistry to transform Sheila into a singing fashion chameleon.

Now let her music unfold.
