3nity Dream (Part 1 of 3): Ilonggo 3nity set to be heard in Rockhampton City, Australia
It all started with a pop dream for Ilonggo 3nity, a vocal trio of independent Ilonggo music artists Reyn Callao, Sheila Barrios and Cherry Callao. They were managed and formed by rslphoenix music, a team of independent creative artists from Iloilo City, Philippines. Last April this year, Reyn caught the eye of the group and was convinced to record his first Ilonggo song “Seryoso” then followed by his cousin, Sheila Barrios with her song “Ginpalangga,.” Both singers wrote their songs with beats based from famous songs of Chris Brown and Rihanna, respectively. Later, Cherry Callao, the sister of Reyn came over and recorded her own song “Ikaw Guid Lang,” an Ilonggo song based from the beat of Tifanny’s 90s famous song. Under one independent management team, the three talented Ilonggo artists has decided to merge their voices to become Ilonggo 3nity and the recording of their first launching song “Badtrip,” an Ilonggo remake of Lady Gaga’s pop hit. Their songs are one by one released in selected FM radio stations in Iloilo and now, in Bacolod. Ilonggo 3nity are working side-by-side with Ilonggo rap groups SYK Unit and All Out Kingz for out-of-towns gigs and events.
In the last week of October this year, Cyril Calabio, a Filipino radio presentor for 93.5 FM Rockhampton Community Station in Rockhampton City, Australia sent a facebook message to Ilonggo 3nity expressing his interest with their song. He presented the idea to play the song of Ilonggo 3nity “Badtrip” since he has a lot of Filipino and Ilonggo listeners in his weekly program. He is hoping to capture the interest of his Kababayans who are living and working in Rockhampton City and some parts of Australia. He believes that presenting Filipino talents or Ilonggos in particular would make them feel close to their real home country. From 2008-2009, Calabio hosted a weekly Cable show about tourism in the Philippines and everything it has to offer for tourists. After a short while, he took a rest and was invited to host a weekly radio show at 93.5 FM Rockhampton Community Station where Filipinos and Australians are avid listeners.
Calabio’s passion for Filipino culture and his home country has put his life in Australia even more exciting, inspiring and self-fulfilling. He has been a born leader even when he was still living in Iloilo a few years ago. His achievements include being elected as President of Iloilo Jaycees in 2005. Now, he has made a life-changing decision to give local Filipino talents such as Ilonggo 3nity a chance to be heard and appreciated not only by their fellow Filipinos in Australia but by everyone who are fans of real talent and cool music.
On November 14, 2010, Calabio will play Ilonggo songs for the first on air starting with Ilonggo 3nity’s “Badtrip” and their respective solo singles such as “Bahala Ka Na” by Reyn Callao, “Sa Handum na Guid Lang” by Sheila Barrios and “Ikaw Guid Lang” by Cherry Callao.
Surely, it will become a big leap for Ilonggo music in the years to come.
(On the second part of this article, Calabio expressed his plans for Ilonggo 3nity)

Sheila’s 2nd Coming
It’s all about music and voice for Sheila Barrios. This 17-year-old shy Ilonggo singer was introduced in the local music of Iloilo City accidentally and unexpectedly. Exactly seven months ago, Sheila graduated in high school with flying colors and radiant hope. The only thing she knew back then was how to get good grades, finish her studies, maintain her facebook, read books, laugh out loud with friends and what else?... be herself: simple girl with little dreams. Music is just an inner passion for her but she has no outlet for it. Not until rslphoenix, a group of independent Ilonggo music producers was caught up with Sheila when they first heard her voice. The voice is simple but deep and melodic...and catchy. For one hour, she sat down with rslphoenix and wrote an Ilonggo song entitled “Ginpalangga” based from the beat of Rihanna’s popular song. Then, everything goes on and on. The next thing we knew, this girl is singing and her song can be heard over local FM radio stations particularly at Campus Radio 93.5.
She’s an Ilonggo—by heart and soul. Singing in Ilonggo is something worth doing for her. It is a cultural pride for her being part of the city known for its sweet and loving people. The city of love has heard of Sheila’s voice for the first time at SM City Iloilo this year for itravel Philippines tourism event televised at SkyCable. Singing means passion for Sheila. Though she was accidentally discovered, her talent seems to be raw, powerful and mesmerizing in some ways. And some people agreed it is.
This girl loves to sing. And she believes that no matter what, music will always be a part of her journey, it will lead her to her true self-realization and fulfilment someday. One step at a time, setting her heart with patience and believing in dreams, Sheila is reborn after seven months. The reborn starts with the upcoming release of her second song “Sa Handum Na Guid Lang.” The song reveals a deeper part of her heart and it beats with a message, a voice, and a dream that “love conquers all” including the unconquerable.
It’s coming soon full blast via her official webpage www.sheilailonggopop.blogspot.com , facebook account and youtube channel.

Sheila@Gaisano’s Singing Idol Pre-finals
Trying her luck and proving how much she can achieve in a real singing competition, Ilonggo songstress Sheila Barrios has decided to put her talent to test by joining the Singing Idol pre-finals at Gaisano Capital Activity Center last October 30, 2010. Though she’s a bit more amateur in singing contests before, Sheila saw the opportunity as a chance to test her singing prowess more and considered it as a good experience to improve more. She doesn’t expect winning in the contest but trying more to improve herself onstage. Sheila performed two songs based in the rules of the competition (one fast song and a ballad song of her choice). For the fast song, she choose to perform “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaylor and “I Love You Goodbye” by Celine Dion for the ballad. Out of six contestants, the judges will only choose two winners that will compete in the grand finals. Luckily, Sheila won and chosen as grand finalist.
The Singing Idol grand finals at Gaisano Capital is scheduled on November 6, 2010, 4PM at the mall’s activity center. We wish the best of luck for Sheila!

election fever
Sheila sang for an Election Campaign
A good and sincere friend by heart, Ilonggo songstress Sheila Barrios took time to show up and proved her full support to Joan Tabud (Mz. JT of All Out Kingz) during her final campaign for Barangay Election in the evening of October 23, 2010 at Bo. Obrero Gym. Joan Tabud ran for SK Chairman of Bo. Obrero when she realized she had a passion for youth leadership. She wanted to inspire young people in their community to be active in their social responsibilities. Joan was Sheila's classmate and bestfriend since high school. And being part of rslphoenix music talents, both Ilonggo music artists shared a lot of interests and gigs together. So, when Joan needed Sheila's support, she never hesitated to take part in their final campaign together with other Ilonggo music artists that includes SYK Unit and All Out Kingz.
Sheila performed her smash hit Ilonggo single "Ginpalangga" that easily captured the interest of the crowd since this song has been constantly played at Campus Radio Iloilo and Bacolod for the past months. Now, other FM stations in Iloilo has started to play the song due to constant requests from radio listeners. Anyway, here are some candid shots they took during the event and a live performance from youtube.com.
