Sheila talks about L-O-V-E with “Ginpalangga”

People have different definitions of love. But for Sheila Barrios, a rising Ilongga songstress introduced by rslphoenix music, L-O-V-E means heartaches and heartbreaks. Well, it might be true. But again for Sheila, bringing out her emotions and feelings through her song’s lyrics is about artistic expression. She’s a singer but shy by nature. Now, she reveals more about the reason behind why she co-wrote this song with rslphoenix and why Rihanna’s music means a lot to her in this casual talk...

Q: First and foremost, why “Ginpalangga” (loved)? (una sa tanan, nga-a “Ginpalangga”?)
Sheila: “Ginapalangga” (loved) because this song was written out of love for someone in the past whom I got the inspiration to turn my feelings into lyrics and connect it to the sad tune of Rihanna’s song “Unfaithful.” (Ginapalangga kay ang kanta nga ini ginsulat tungod sang paghigugma para sa isa tawo sang una kun diin naghalin ang inspirasyon para mahimo ko ang akon nabatyagan nga magnin lyrics kag ginupod ko ang masubo nga tono sang kanta ni Rihanna nga “Unfaithful”)
Q: How long did you wrote this song? (ano kadugay mo ginsulat ang kanta nga ini?)
Sheila: I wrote the song with rslphoenix for less than an hour in the middle of the night. It was instant, fast, and both of us are inspired to make the lyrics. We realize later that the lyrics presented a deep emotion and sentiments for heartbroken teenagers. Hopefully, the song will appeal to everyone who experience love and wanting to be loved. (Ginsulat ko ang kanta upod si rslphoenix mga lapit isa ka oras sa tunga sang kagab-ihon. Dasig lang kay duha kami daw inspirado gid nga obrahon ang lyrics. Narealize namon sang ulihi nga ang lyrics nagapakita sang madalum nga emosyon kag sentimento para sa mga heartbroken nga pamatan-on. Q: what are your plans for the song? (ano ang plano nyo sa kanta?)
Sheila: The song is now in youtube accompanied with my fashion pictorial as a teaser video. My producer plans to make a fan video where some of my friends will lip-synced my song in a very creative way. Then, there will be a real music video that we might shoot in Savannah which depends on his schedule. I will also sing it live on TV but we don’t have a sure date yet. I will keep you all posted. Then, on May 20, I will perform it live at SM City Iloilo for the launching of itravel Philippines along with Reyn Callao and other Ilonggo music artists. Q: Do you really like Rihanna and why it feels like you want to follow her style and voice? (namian ka guid man bala kay Rihanna kag nga-a daw gusto mo sundon iya istilo kag tingog?)
Sheila: Actually, it’s not part of the plan because we wanted to make a good song and we choose the tune of Rihanna’s song. But when i started singing the lyrics, my producer told me that my voice have similarity to her. He knows it’s just coincidence. But the truth is, Rihanna has always been my favorite singer. She’s a great singer and her songs are full of emotions. When we did the fashion shoot, Ram Silva and my producer both agreed that I somehow look and sounds like Rihanna. That’s their opinion. (sa tuod-tuod lang indi ina parti sang plano kay gusto lang namon mag-obra sang manami nga kanta kag ginpili namon ang tono sang kanta ni Rihanna. Pero sang ginsuguran kona kantahon ang lyrics, ang akon producer naghambal nga ang tingog ko may similarity sa iya. Balan n’ya man nga natabuan lang tanan. Pero sa tuod lang, si Rihanna iya dugay ko na nga paborito nga singer. Manami siya nga singer kag ang iya mga kanta puno sang emosyon. Sang nagfashion shoot kami, si Ram Silva kag ang akon producer nagpamatuod nga daw hawig kuno ang akon itsura kag tingog kay Rihanna. Ila man ina ya opinyon)
Q: So how will you make a unique image as Sheila? (paano ka makahimo sang lain nga imahe bilang si Sheila?)
Sheila: For sure, I will sing from the heart. I want to sing, that’s all know and this is the way to show my talent. That’s the most important thing for me right now. (Ang masigurado ko lang, makanta ko halin sa akon tagipusuon. Ang nabal-an ko lang ya gusto ko magkanta kag amo ini nga paagi mapakita ko ang akon talento. Amo ini ang pinakaimportante nga bagay para sa akon subong)
